Flash as a Tool for your Personal Vision

This workshop is sponsored by Fujifilm Nordica. One student will be the lucky winner of a new Fujifilm X100F.

Full Frontal Flash is an international collective of photographers dedicated to using flash to make candid photographs in public places. It is a technique that is as striking as it is controversial. StreetFoto is proud to be bringing members of FFF in from around the world to present the group’s first-ever group workshop. In this class you’ll not only learn about and practice general street photography approaches and techniques, you’ll also be shown how to use flash to achieve your unique personal vision. This is something you won’t find in any other workshop.

NO FLASH EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. Never used flash? Never fear. Our instructors will walk you through the basics of how to use it.

DON’T HAVE A FLASH? No problem. We’ll have them available to borrow.

Instructors:
Johan Jehlbo, Malmo, Sweden
Ben Helton, Georgia, USA
Tyler Simpson, British Columbia, Canada
Skyid Wang, British Columbia, Canada

Andy Kochanowski & TC Lin

3-day Burn My Eye street photography workshop

June 3-5, 2018

Finding Your Motives in Street Photography

Burn My Eye is an international collective of street photographers who presented a fantastic group show at StreetFoto 2016. We are thrilled to be bringing Andy Kochanowski and TC Lin, two of the collective’s members, to StreetFoto 2018 as workshop instructors.

This workshop will be three full days, starting on Sunday, June 3, one day prior to the festival’s official opening day. This is the perfect way to kick off your festival experience, and it leaves you time to enjoy the events of the rest of the week at your leisure, or even sign up for a second class.

Like other workshops, this class will involve introductions, shooting, assignments, and extensive critique. But it has a focus: Exploring your motives for street photography. Why are you attracted to shooting people in public without permission? Why are you drawn to certain types of subjects, situations, or compositions? If you know the answers to these questions, the instructors will help you dive deeper into them. If, like most of us, you are not sure, you will explore what triggers you to create certain types of work, and learn about yourself and the creative forces that drive you.

Andy and TC are experienced street shooters who have taught and exhibited their work around the world. We’re excited to have them bring this unique class to San Francisco.

This class is limited to 15 students.

This class is open to shooters of all skill levels, but it is not a beginner’s primer. It will jump right into philosophical concepts about artistic motivation. Beginning shooters should not be afraid to join the class, but should not expect to be walked through the basics of how to hold your camera and which lens to use.

Students will need to bring their own gear: A camera, a laptop (or some way to edit), and a USB memory stick.

Location: San Francisco, June 3-5, 2018

Price: $750
